Which charity would you like to support for this September’s Brum Twestival?
Here’s a few words about each charity to help you choose:
Acorn Hospice
Established in 1983, offering a network of care to life-limited children and support for their families across the heart of England.
Acorns has three hospices, situated in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester and a Community Team that offers practical and emotional support to families in their homes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. http://www.acorns.org.uk/
Kidney Kids Appeal
Being in hospital can be a difficult, bewildering and often scary experience for anyone – and particularly for children. Kidney Kids Appeal believe that we should make it as comfortable and relaxing as possible and they’re working towards creating the very best healing environment for children, right here in Birmingham. It’s a simple fact is that children get better more quickly in an environment they like and even enjoy.
And that is where Red Balloon Fudnraising is making a big difference, with their latest fundraising priority being:http://www.redballoonappeal.co.uk/
Birmingham YMCA
Birmingham YMCA is a Christian charity working with people, especially the young, regardless of faith, race, ability or gender. They are proud to be affiliated to the national and international YMCA movement who provide advice, representation and support to them, but they’re an independent charity with their own Board of Trustees and have to generate all of our own resources.
They want to be an inspirational presence in the lives of the people who come to them. Ultimately, they want those people to be inspired to become a positive presence in the communities which they live in; helping to build a better Birmingham for everyone. http://www.birminghamymca.co.uk/aboutus.html
The Conservation Trust
A charity which exists ‘to preserve and enhance Birmingham’s threatened architectural heritage and to promote an enjoyment and understanding of the City’s historic buildings’.
Founded in 1978, Birmingham Conservation Trust is one of over 250 building preservations trusts in the UK. They are funded partly on a revolving fund basis i.e. from surplus generated by the sale or lease of restored properties and partly from project management fees. They receive in kind support from Birmingham City Council. http://www.birminghamconservationtrust.org/about/
Fireside Day Centre in Digbeth
Over the last few years their profile of clients have changed to include people from more diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, as well as younger people experiencing social exclusion, poverty and substance misuse problems. Against the stereotype, many of SIFA’s clients had their own tenancies, temporary or supported accommodation, although generally at risk through alcohol-related issues. http://www.sifafireside.co.uk/about.php
St Mary’s Hospice in Selly Oak
Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice makes the small changes that can make the big difference to people’s lives.
They care for over 1,000 people each year suffering from life-limiting illnesses such as Cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
Their aim is to give people the best possible quality of life for whatever time remains to them, supporting them and their families, for as long as they need us. http://www.bsmh.org.uk/about/index.php
